About Jennifer
Jennifer Carr is in her 12th year as an educator. Her passion lies in designing equitable, inquiry-based mathematical experiences that elicit sense making, curiosity, and a positive disposition towards math in all students. She is particularly interested in the role that social emotional learning curriculum and classroom culture play in the development of students’ disposition towards math and identities as learners of math. Most of Jenn’s journey as an educator took place in the San Marcos Unified School District in San Diego County. However, Jenn is currently serving students and teachers as a Learning Director in an elementary school in the small mountain town of Tehachapi in Kern County. She has also served as an elementary classroom teacher, teacher on special assignment for elementary mathematics, mathematics intervention specialist, and instructional mathematics coach. She is an experienced math professional learning facilitator and has been a speaker at the UC San Diego Teaching and Learning Conference (2016 and 2018) and California Mathematics Council – South Conference (2020). She has been an active member of the San Diego County Office of Education K-8 Math Leaders Network and SoCal Math Specialist Network. She also served on the executive board of the Greater San Diego Mathematics Council as the Vice President of Membership and Secretary. She is proud to be the founder and leader of the GEMS (Girls Excelling in Math and Science) Club, which serves 3rd-8th grade students. Jenn received her M.Ed. with an elementary mathematics emphasis certificate from UC San Diego and M.A. in Educational Administration from CSU San Marcos.
